April 8 – Check Yourself

Yikes! Do you ever go down a rabbit hole that is full of negative thoughts. Or have positive things to say about everyone and everything around you except YOU. Then unwanted anxiety creeps in. Check yourself, how are you doing? If you’re beating yourself up every chance you get, go back to Sunday’s post and make sure you’ve set an intention to cover this (and keep reading below).

Today the kids and I went for another hike/walk on my father-in-law’s land behind our house. We stopped by a tree and the kids enjoyed a little snack and we watched the ducks in the water. The kids were busy talking to one another and I stopped for a moment to say a prayer, count my blessings and reflect on our current season of life.

For me, not much has changed in our day-to-day activities since the news of the coronavirus. I guess the warmer weather has allowed us to spend more time outside. I’m very thankful for this! But typically over the kids and I are home-bodies. I guess I am – they are by default. Owen would get out almost everyday for a few hours during the week with school and speech, but Molly was used to her once a week Target run with mom. Otherwise, she was hanging out at home.

One thing that has changed recently though is my anxiety levels. My sleep has been off, my eating isn’t what I want, I’ve been tossing negative jabs at myself. The list could go on.

Insert my reading this morning. A good friend couldn’t have placed this in my hands at a better time. I’m going to share a few of the words I read today from Fully Alive – Learning to Flourish – Mind, Body & Spirit by Susie Larson.

Does God have negative thoughts on repeat?
Then neither should we.
Does He rehearse how people have hurt and offended Him?
Then neither should we.
Does He constantly condemn and accuse Himself?
Then neither should we.
Does He long for us to live flourishing, abundant lives?
Then we should long for and believe for that reality just as much.

So good! This was JUST what I needed. Did you need to hear this too?

It allowed me to be still. Be present. Give it all to Him.

I enjoyed ALL the moments of today without the anxiety creeping in. We even went for another walk in nature with Sven when he got home from work. It’s amazing what a little reminder can do for a person.

Use this as your reminder if you need to!

Here’s to a good night’s routine and an even better night of sleep! We’ve got this friends.
